Biography

Michael A. Hasco, floral artist, is an honors graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology, with a degree in Floral Design and Interior Plantscape Design. His education is ongoing and includes numerous hands-on design workshops and symposia with world-class international designers.

Michael’s love of floral art led him to complete a yearlong internship serving as assistant display specialist at world renowned Longwood Gardens. His creative expertise was utilized in the conceptualization, design, and installation of floral décor for special events, parties and hospitality work, as well as themed seasonal exhibits. Michael’s intern project, an Italian Christmas Tree, or “ceppo,” was one of the main features during Longwood’s Christmas festivities in 2000. This unique experience laid the foundation and set the direction for his career, and continues to provide an invaluable point of reference.

In 2005, Michael was awarded the Accredited in Floral Design designation, and inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers, AIFD. Accredited membership is regarded as a high honor in the floral industry.

Michael’s goal and life’s joy is to continually inspire others. Television, print, and stage have allowed him to share his passion for the beauty and art of floral design. He has been a guest designer and featured lecturer at Penn College and has presented a program on armatures at the Philadelphia International Flower Show. Michael conducts classes and presentations for organizations, nonprofits and garden clubs.

Versed in a range of design styles and mediums, Michael’s specialty is permanent and dried botanicals, designed with his signature “fresh flower” approach. But, whether using fresh, dried, or permanent flowers, he injects each creation with his personality and interests. Fashion, art, literature, and a lifelong love of nature and organic materials influence his work, which has been featured in local, national, and international publications.

Most recently, in 2007, 2009, and 2010, Michael contributed his artistic abilities as a featured designer with the award winning AIFD exhibit at the Philadelphia International Flower Show.

Michael currently resides in Carlisle, Pa. He is a freelance designer with interests in fashion, art and horticulture.
